Version History

At a glance

  • Plan: Pro
  • Best for: Workspace owners
  • Where to find it: Prompt detail -> Versions tab
Pro feature

Version history is available on the Pro plan.

Key points

  • When you restore an older version, PrompX snapshots the current state first so recovery stays safe.
  • Version history is useful whenever prompts are edited often or shared widely.

What this feature does

Version History stores earlier prompt states and lets you restore them later. It is designed for prompts that keep evolving over time and need a safer editing workflow.

Why it is useful

Prompt work often improves through experimentation, but experimentation is risky when there is only one copy. Version History gives you a safe way to iterate without losing the last good version.

How to use it

  1. Edit and save a prompt as usual. PrompX creates version history as the prompt changes over time.
  2. Open the prompt and switch to the Versions tab when you need to review earlier states.
  3. Select a version from the list to inspect its details and compare it with the current prompt.
  4. Use Restore when you want to return to an earlier version.
  5. Confirm the restored prompt in the main detail view and continue working from there.

Tips

  • Use version history before large rewrites, tone shifts, or structural changes.
  • If a prompt is mission-critical, combine version history with duplication so you can compare branches of work more explicitly.
  • Keep titles and descriptions clear. They make older versions easier to recognize in context.

Common use cases

  • Recovering a stronger prompt after a rushed edit.
  • Comparing several generations of a high-value system prompt.
  • Restoring a prompt to a known-good state before re-sharing it externally.
